What does R.A.D. stand for? Rape Aggression Defense Systems. Find out more about R.A.D.
Why should I take R.A.D.? Safety and survival in today's world requires an active role in one's own self defense. R.A.D. Self Defense for Women is a program of realistic self defense tactics and techniques. It is a comprehensive course that teaches awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance and basic hands on defense training. The certified instructors are professional, reliable and have genuine compassion for participants. Best of all, there is a Lifetime Return and Practice Policy.
What can I expect from class? The course is 9 hours long and is most often scheduled in three sessions of three hours each. The course is set up as follows: Hours 1-3: Participants will be required to complete course paperwork and then a presentation will follow regarding risk reduction strategies, defensive strategies, how to develop a defensive mindset, recognizing vulnerable locations and utilizing personal weapons. If time allows, we will warm up and begin the process of hands on training. Hours 4-6: The class will focus on learning the techniques and participating in hands on training. The techniques are based on simple gross motor skills and can be developed to the point that they become instinctual through repetition. Students will have the opportunity to use the techniques in dynamic impact training by striking padded equipment held by the instructors. Hours 7-9: Introduction of ground defense techniques and continue refining skills previously learned.
Why should I wear or bring to a R.A.D. class? Participants should wear aerobic style work out clothes and sneakers. Jeans are too restrictive. Wedding bands are permitted, but you will be asked to remove all other jewelry. It's a good idea to bring bottled water and a towel as well. Participants will be provided with a R.A.D. manual at the first session which they should bring with them to the remaining sessions.
Do I have to be in shape to attend a R.A.D. class? R.A.D. is designed for women of ALL skill levels and physical abilities. The techniques do not require women to have any special skills or abilities to be successful in the program.
What is the attendance policy? You are expected to attend all classes. There is limited space available and we typically have people waiting to attend. Please make sure you are committed to attending all of the classes before you register.
Who teaches R.A.D.? The Basic Self Defense for Women R.A.D. program is taught by instructors certified through R.A.D. Systems, Inc. The instructor staff includes a male and female instructor.
